Honestly, I know I post a lot of photos of my hiking adventures here, but guess what. It is not always smiles and summit beers. Sometimes I struggle to even make it to the summit. Yes, I usually post photos where I’m smiling and of the incredible, jaw dropping nature. (Oh, for sure, you know I will.) What you don’t see is that climbing a mountain is always a different kind of journey for me. I’m terrified of heights. I don’t trust that my upper body strength can hold me when I’m lifting myself up and over a rock face. Sometimes I don’t know which path to take when the marker isn’t clear and I second guess my choices. You’ll see me smiling here, but you won’t hear my hyperventilating, heavy breaths I take when I’m unsure and untrusting of where to take my next step. You’ll see beautiful views, but you won’t see the bruises, scratches, and blisters that came along with it.
But I hope you do see that every fear can be tackled. Each time I am at a trailhead, I strive to push myself farther the last. I push through the pain, the blisters, the anxiety, and my fears.
I’m not afraid to try new things and I allow the people I care about most to keep pushing me forward as well. Without my closest of friends to listen and reassure me that my next step is the right one - where would I be?
Whew. That was a lot. So here is a friendly reminder for me, and for you, to get out of your own head once in awhile and get outside instead. ✌🏻
This year’s Power of Being a Girl was absolutely FAAAAAAAN-tastic. Maybe it’s the fanny pack jokes that made it all the better. No, it probably was the fact that I was surrounded by some of my most favourite women who came together as a community to help 125 young girls sparkle. 💫

You’ve probably heard me talk about the Steminists and @recycledsoundskamloops before. I usually get way too excited and my voice gets high pitched and sometimes I’m tearing up... but I’m just SO excited about these four young women and their incredible startup story!!! Who knew that at the age of sixteen it could be possible to be the CEO of your own company?! AND BE ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING IT?! We have even more exciting news as the Steminists have recently been accepted into an international case competition that is taking place in Lima, Peru next month. Alia, Rohkeya, Sarah, and Tasia will be representing Canada on an international level by showcasing Recycled Sounds through a trade show aspect and a case competition against other top companies from across the rest of North America, Central and South America. This is such an amazing opportunity for these young women to expand their entrepreneurial spirits, build up their confidence, and obtain real-life experience in the business world. (And of course, we hope to make Canada very proud and bring home an award!) While the majority of this trip is graciously supported by Junior Achievement BC, we are still seeking an additional $9,000.00 to send these four young women and two chaperones on this business/extracurricular trip. These outstanding funds will cover things like travel/medics insurance, vaccinations, and travel expenses from Kamloops to Vancouver.
