From January to April 2015, I assisted in the Thompson Rivers University’s Office of Environment and Sustainability. I helped out with a variety of duties and event planning. Many of my day to day duties included providing onsite event assistance and trade show experiences at events such as the Community Innovation Lab 2015 and TRU Logger Days. I really enjoyed meeting new people as well as discussing the environment and sustainability initiatives on campus, locally, and globally with others.
From an academic perspective, I aided in researching different topics such as community based social marketing initiatives. I also learned and presented information about Keurig cup recycling on our campus and found out what other leading American and Canadian universities are doing in regards to promoting reusable coffee cups. I really can appreciate working in a fast paced environment and I love to be constantly learning – so this position was an excellent fit for me! In terms of marketing, I created event posters, marketing materials, and event booth information for effective communication to the office’s target market.
This position was absolutely fascinating as I was always learning more about the environment and sustainability projects happening on the TRU campus. I am very passionate about living a sustainable life and this job truly aided my personal growth on many different levels.
