In late October of 2012, Thompson Rivers University hosted the United Way’s not- for-profit fair on Student Street. At this event the Visual Art Student Association set up a booth in collaboration with the United Way campaign, collecting stories of Giving and Receiving from passers-by. This event and the stories gathered inspired the idea of The Art of Giving & Receiving: Narrative & Visual Expression, an art exhibition that speaks to and explores the spirit of giving within the City of Kamloops.
This open art exhibition was organized and curated by Thompson Rivers University student Stephanie Patsula. I entered a written piece of my experiences creating a fundraising event for my dear friend. I also submitted a stunning functional tea pot that my friend created for me as a gift. Together, our installation was a heartfelt visual piece discussing generosity and humanity.
Thank you to Stephanie Patsula for the use of these photographs.
