I recently came back to Kamloops after spending a year abroad in The Netherlands. Diving right into the local arts scene, I volunteered my time at the 17th annual Children’s Arts Festival hosted by the Kamloops Arts Council. It was a fun-filled, creative day of artistic, musical, and theatrical activities and performances for children ages two to twelve. The entire day was free for children and their families.
This year, the festival was themed “Around The World”. I taught a painting workshop where children learned how to paint sunflowers like the famous post impressionist, Vincent Van Gogh. It was great to see so many budding artists having fun. I love how children can be so confident, as one girl told me, “I’ve been an artist for a long time.” This reminds me of a Picasso quote, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
Thank you to Shaw TV Kamloops, the Kamloops Arts Council, and RDC Photography for the use of these photographs.
