Art in the Park is the largest arts event in Kamloops and is organized by the Kamloops Arts Council as part of the City of Kamloops Canada Day celebrations at Riverside Park. The full day of arts exhibitions and sales, demos and performances is free to the public. Approximately 30,000 people attend the event each year.
More than ninety artists showcase and sell their artworks of all mediums, from painting and pottery to fashion and jewellery. The event also features live music, dance, and theatre performances for all ages.
I have been a part of this event for the past five years, from displaying artwork to volunteering, to being a paid staff person. In 2013, I coordinated a tent filled with the ‘best of the best’ artwork called the Honours Tent. In 2014, the Kamloops Arts Council celebrated its’ forty fifth anniversary and I organized a silent art auction with over forty five packages available for auction.
